Goose flew into Fort Collins, Colorado’s Aggie Theatre on Thursday for their first show on the second leg of the band’s ongoing 2019 tour. The performance in Colorado last night was the band’s first since their sold-out show at Buffalo, NY’s Nietzsche’s last month on November 16th.

Connecticut natives, Rick Mitarotonda (singer, lead guitar), Ben Atkind (drums), Trevor Weeks (Bass), and Peter Anspach (guitar, keyboards) effortlessly showed the Colorado crowd why they are quickly gaining momentum in the jam scene.

Combining originals from their 2016 Moon Cabin album with masterful covers, Goose didn’t waste any time showing their Fort Collins fans the love by kicking off the first set with “Me and My Uncle”, a song originally written in 1963 by John Phillips of The Mamas and the Papas, and often covered by the Grateful Dead. Anspach‘s clear, melodic keys and Atkind’s marching band style drums transitioned the crowd into the second song, and the first original of the evening, with “Lead the Way”.

Goose then segued into the lively “Time to Flee” and “All I Need” before Anspach led the band into a soulful rendition of Bruce Hornsby’s “The Way It Is”. If the room was not yet filled with love, Goose stepped it up by handing the mic over to a fan for a proposal in the audience (she said yes!) before their final song of the first set, “So Ready”.

Goose got the eager crowd moving again straight from the first song of their second set with their funky “Jive I” before diving into an incredible rendition of Radiohead’s, “Weird Fishes/Arpeggi” and took it into their moody original, “Into the Myst”. “Turned Clouds”, Goose’s first song off of Moon Cabin, came next and led into “Tumble” before the band jammed in and out of Herbie Hancock‘s “Cantaloupe Island” to finish the second set.

Even though it was well after midnight by the time Goose returned for a “Disco Inferno” encore, the band’s energy did not wane and the crowd danced on. Goose’s tight and flawless performance made it perfectly clear that this is a band that loves the music they play, and can’t wait to show their fans what else this folk-funk-reggae-rock fusion has in store for them.

The Fort Collins show on Thursday was the first performance as part of a four-night run across Colorado. Goose will migrate south to Denver on Friday for a sold-out show at Cervantes’ Other Side, then onto Steamboat Springs for two nights at the Old Town Pub on December 7th and 8th.
