Rising jam quartet Goose was at The Mousetrap in Indianapolis, IN on Saturday for the latest sold-out show on the band’s ongoing fall tour. The packed weekend performance saw the group deliver a mix of some fan-favorite originals, in addition to a litany of covers over two sets and an encore.

The show kicked off with an airy improvisation that eventually evolved into a cover of “Crosseyed and Painless” by Talking Heads. The music soon turned into a barn-burner of a jam, until they put on the brakes to segue into one of their originals in “Doc Brown”. The set continued with renditions of The Wood Brothers‘ “One More Day” along with more originals including “Indian River” and “Madhuvan”.

The band returned to open the second half of the show with one of Goose’s most reliable exploratory vehicles, “Drive”. Following some extended improvisation and interplay, the music charged straight into “Get The Funk Out of My Face” by The Brothers Johnson. This turned into a series of cover segues, as “Face” led straight into Michael Jackson‘s “Billie Jean”, which then rolled into “Boogie On Reggae Woman” by Stevie Wonder. The band once again closed out the set–which didn’t end until nearly 2:30 in the morning–with a pair of original songs in “Turned Clouds” and “So Ready”.

When Goose came back out for an encore, they decided to get Indianapolis in the Christmas spirit with a cover of Tom Waits‘ “Christmas Card From a Hooker in Minneapolis”, followed by their own “White Lights” to end the evening.
