Goose was back in action on Wednesday in St. Louis, as the indie-jam band continued the first week of shows on its summer tour with the second straight night at The Factory. Following an energizing performance on Tuesday, the band took the stage on Wednesday to open the night with some relatively contained, but still vivacious, renditions of “Atlas Dogs” and “Turbulence & The Night Rays” with Rick Mitarotonda delivering strong vocals on both.
The band bounced through “Earthling or Alien?” before taking the audience on a ride with “Tumble” for the first lengthy performance of the night (clocking in at 23 minutes), highlighted by some exceptional playing from Mitarotonda and bassist Trevor Weekz. The dance party continued with a high-energy rendition of “Rockdale” to take fans into the break.

The second set opened right where Goose left off with an ultra-funky “Thatch” and kept the packed venue grooving with “Creatures” and “Red Bird”. The latter gave keyboardist/guitarist Peter Anspanch his first turn on lead vocals for the evening, but the band didn’t take long to ascend into orbit with some exploratory jamming. Goose then moved right into a lively take on The Beatles’ psychedelic masterpiece “Tomorrow Never Knows” to end the set. This version was less dreamy than the original, as Goose gave it a dose of adrenaline courtesy of Mitarotonda’s lead playing. To close the night the band brought the audience back to earth with a pretty straightforward performance of the Marvin Gaye-penned and The Band-adapted “Baby Don’t You Do It”.
