At the tail end of May, the animated hip-hop group Gorillaz detailed their upcoming album, The Now Now, which is due out on June 29th via Warner Bros. Records and dropped two singles to pair with the announcement. In the time since, the band has added two more singles to the mix, with today’s release of “Hollywood” marking the fifth song released off the new album.
The Now Now was produced by Simian Mobile Disco’s James Ford, who most recently worked with Arctic Monkeys on Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino. The album also features three special guest contributors: George Benson, Jamie Principle, and Snoop Dogg. The latter two, Jamie Principle and Snoop, appear together on this latest track, “Hollywood”, which has been performed by the group in concert on multiple occasions since it was officially debuted live in Chile back in March. Principle was on tour with Gorillaz when the song’s demo was recorded, while Snoop Dogg is a longtime collaborator and friend.
