The latest live Grateful Dead video from the band’s recently-launched “All The Years Live” series is now available through the band’s official YouTube page. The new video is a gorgeous segue of “China Cat Sunflower” into “I Know You Rider” from July 6th, 1990 at Louisville, KY’s Cardinal Stadium.

As the band’s official archivist David Lemieux explains in the video’s description, “By 1990, China/Rider had been in the Dead’s repertoire for more than 20 years, since they were first joined in the Fall of 1969. A consistently played combination until 1995 (aside from a brief hiatus 1975-1978, with one performance during that span on 12/29/77), this was most commonly a second set opener in the later years, usually going into a Weir song. This sequence is from Brent’s final tour with the Grateful Dead.”

This particular “China>”Rider opened up the band’s second set, with Jerry Garcia looking healthy and happy. Keyboardist Brent Mydland, who tragically passed away just weeks later on July 26th, adds a beautiful touch to the mix, backed by a fierce rhythmic charge from Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann, and Mickey Hart. Moving into the “Rider” improvisational section, Garcia dazzled the crowd with a series of explosive guitar licks.
