After wrapping up their first leg of fall tour with Ghost Light and The Lil Smokies yesterday, Greensky Bluegrass has announced their ninth studio effort and a supporting winter tour with Circles Around The Sun, Billy Strings, and more. The upcoming new album, All For Money, is officially due out on January 18th, 2019. As promised by the band, they will be “sharing new music and behind the scenes footage from the recording sessions” across the coming weeks.
“The title of the album comes from a song with the same name. I thought on this concept for a long time,” said Paul Hoffman in a press release. “This paradox that exists in doing what you love or having your dreams come true. We are so truly blessed. But also, what if the support and all the attention starts to feel like crowding and containment. I wanted to be careful about how to say this. It’s tricky. I’m not harboring any resent or regret. Far from it in fact. Pride and honor. But if we get tired or if we’re making decisions based on our needs to eat or the desires of others, well, that’s just not ‘doing what you love.’ The song and the album are so much about us. It’s about what we do and the love we receive in return. So ‘if you need a voice, I’m yours friend. For something better in the end.”
Following the second leg of their fall tour, which will culminate with a four-night NYE run in Chicago, IL with Jeff Austin Band and Horseshoes and Hand Grenades, Greensky Bluegrass will warm up this winter with a seven-date run with Circles Around The Sun. The swing with CATS will hit Albany, NY (1/10); Philadelphia, PA (1/11); New York, NY (1/12); Covington, KY (1/16); Nashville, TN (1/17); St. Louis, MO (1/18); and Atlanta, GA (1/19).
Then, the jamgrass quintet will link up with another special guest yet-to-be-announced for a run through St. Petersburg, FL (1/22); Charleston, SC (1/23); Knoxville, TN (1/24); Raleigh, NC (1/25); and Charlotte, NC (1/26). From there, rising star Billy Strings will join GSBG for a run through Portland, ME (1/29); Boston, MA (1/30); Jim Thrope, PA (1/31); Washington, DC (2/1-2/2); Cleveland, OH (2/5); Columbus, OH (2/6); and Pittsburgh, PA (2/7). The tour will close with two nights in Detroit, MI (2/8-2/9), with support to be announced soon.
