For over 60 years, Herbie Hancock has served as a redefining force in jazz. From getting his start in the Miles Davis Quintet in the mid-1960s alongside Wayne ShorterRon Carter, and Tony Williams, Hancock has consistently pushed jazz’s limits. His 1973 album Head Hunters broke jazz open to rock and funk crowds, linking a fusion of the styles and helping spawn a new genre. In the 1980s, Hancock’s ambitious use of synthesizers helped define the decade, and his continuous reinvention of musical norms has continued unabated for decades.
