Janet Jackson has announced the release of a new album, entitled Black Diamond, in addition to a world tour this summer.
The new album will mark Jackson’s 12th overall studio effort, and the singer’s first since 2015’s Unbreakable. Each show on Jackson’s 34-date arena tour will feature cuts from the new album, as well as a special performance of Jackson’s 1989 album, Rhythm Nation.
In an Instagram post announcing the album and tour, Jackson explained the reasoning behind the title Black Diamond.
Black Diamonds are the toughest of all the diamonds, the hardest to cut. I see that as the hardest to hurt or destroy. There is a lot that I have endured. I see myself as a Black Diamond in its purest form. I’m a rock, I have ruff edges but I keep moving forward. I want to show you my strength as well as give you strength.
The tour kicks off on June 24th at American Airlines Arena in Miami, FL and features stops at iconic venues across North America including Madison Square Garden in New York (7/14); Staples Center in Los Angeles (8/12); and even a couple festival appearances including Essence Festival in New Orleans (7/3) and Cincinnati Music Festival in Ohio (7/25). Jackson’s Instagram post also notes that European and world tour dates will be coming soon.
A special pre-sale code will be sent to subscribers of Jackson’s newsletter tomorrow, February 11th. The general public on-sale begins February 13th at 12 p.m. through her website. See a full list of tour dates below.
