Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit have released “Only Children”, the latest song off the band’s upcoming album, Reunions.
The song is the third single from Reunions, following “What I’ve Done To Help” and “Be Afraid“. “Only Children” forges its own path, however, as an acoustic composition that highlights Isbell’s songwriting prowess. Whereas the previous two singles actively included the whole band, “Only Children” is just Isbell’s acoustic guitar with some light percussion in the back. So far its the closest thing to an Isbell solo song on the album. From the opening verse, “Walking around at night/Fighting my appetite/Every kid in cutoffs could be you/Remember when we used to meet?/At the bottom of Mobile Street/And do what the broken people do,” the piercing lyrics are all the listener can focus on as there’s no electric guitars or pounding drums to mask the emotions. Released after the first two songs, “Only Children” only further exemplifies the diversity to be expected on an album that is also set to feature contributions from David Crosby and Rival Sons singer Jay Buchanan.
Listen to “Only Children”, off of the upcoming Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit album, Reunions, available everywhere on May 15th.

Even as many concerts, festivals, and entire tours have been canceled or postponed as a result of the spread of novel coronavirus, Isbell still plans on hitting the road for a tour in May. In fact, the singer-songwriter has even added dates to the tour, which is set to open with a headlining slot of this year’s Boston Calling festival on May 22nd.
