Wilco‘s Jeff Tweedy was the featured musical performer on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday. Before taking the stage to perform “Let’s Go Rain” from his soon-to-be-released solo album, the well-known singer/songwriter/guitarist was able to spend some time shooting the breeze with Colbert in the guest seat (apparently his first time ever doing so) to promote his new autobiography,  Let’s Go (So We Can Get Back): A Memoir of Recording and Discording With Wilco, Etc.

The interview portion of last night’s episode began with the two reminiscing about Tweedy’s last appearance on the late-night talk show before discussing the guitarist’s new best-selling book.

“I thought I would write it now before I forget everything … it’s all fading already,” Tweedy admitted with a laugh as the show’s host can be seen comparing the somewhat funny before/after photos of the musician on the front and back covers of the book. Tweedy can also be heard regaling Colbert and his audience about the time back in 3rd grade when he attempted to convince his friends that it was him performing on Bruce Springsteen‘s Born To Run album when it initially came out.

“I recorded it off the radio, and I put my name on it,” Tweedy can be heard joyfully admitting in the video below. “I told them, ‘That’s Me!'”

This coming from the same guy who also admits later on in the interview that he’d hit himself with a door handle after seeing Rocky thinking it would be cool to have a black eye.

Tweedy’s performance of “Let’s Go Rain” from his new solo album, Warm, can also be watched below. Rather than just taking the television stage with his band to perform the song, Tweedy’s impressive production also includes glowing clouds and a full Biblical backdrop with dancers dressed as the animals who all partied on the Noah’s Arc.
