Trey Anastasio Band trumpet player and vocalist Jennifer Hartswick has released a solo cover of “When I’m Weary”, the closing track on Dave Matthews Bands‘ new album, Come Tomorrow. According to a post on her Facebook page, Hartswick decided to put out a rendition of the tune after she was deeply moved by the track during a flight.

“As I was listening to the DMB album on my flight, I found myself in tears when I got to the last song,” Hartswick wrote. “It’s simplicity, beauty and lyrical content are perfection. The only way I could think of to say thank you to Dave was to record my own version of it.”

In an interesting and tangentially-related turn of events, Hartswick ran into Dave Matthews Band saxophonist Jeff Coffin while flying home to Nasheville a few days later. She posted of that serendipitous encounter on her Facebook earlier today.

Trey Anastasio will return to the road on Thursday, July 5th when he performs at the Sprint Pavilion in Dave Matthews’ hometown of Charlottesville, VA, but Hartswick won’t be there with him since its part of the Trey Anastasio Trio’s upcoming three-show run. Instead, Hartswick will perform at the High Sierra Music Festival, where she’s slated to join Lebo & Friends with George Porter Jr., Melvin Seals, and fellow TAB horn player Natalie Cressman. The upcoming collaboration is one of Hartswick’s many non-TAB projects, a distinction that includes her fantastic new duo with The Nth Power’s  Nick Cassarino (check out the pair’s debut single, “You Can’t Take It Back” here)
