An all-star lineup will join the Boston Pops this spring for the Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration, honoring 60 years of the Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia‘s enduring legacy.
Set for June 3rd and 4th at Symphony Hall in Boston, MA, the special tribute concerts will feature Jerry Garcia Band members Melvin Seals and Jacklyn LaBranch on keyboard and vocals, respectively, as well as Dead & Company bassist Oteil Burbridge, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead guitarist Tom Hamilton, drummer John Morgan Kimock, and vocalist Lady Chi. Together, they will perform symphonic arrangements of beloved classics from the Jerry Garcia songbook under the baton of conductor Keith Lockhart.
Tickets for the Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration will go on sale on February 4th at 10 a.m. ET. More information and ticketing details are available here.
This latest symphonic celebration continues a tradition that began in 2013, when Warren Haynes toured with Jerry Garcia’s iconic Doug Irwin-designed “Wolf” guitar for a series of orchestral performances. Over the years, the celebration has brought together a rotating cast of musicians to interpret Garcia’s timeless music with symphonic accompaniment.
In 2016, Haynes played a small run of shows that included a one-night-only extravaganza at Red Rocks Amphitheatre and a couple festival appearances, and in 2022, Seals, LaBranch, and Hamilton joined forces with the Colorado Symphony at Red Rocks for a special performance commemorating Garcia’s 80th birthday. That show also featured Widespread Panic’s Dave Schools and Duane Trucks on bass and drums, respectively.
This spring, the Boston Pops will carry forward this rich tradition with a unique celebration of Garcia’s artistry, showcasing his music in a grand orchestral setting.
