Joe Russo’s Almost Dead wrapped their brief run of shows throughout “The Lone Star State” on Saturday night with a performance at ACL Live at the Moody Theater in Austin, TX. The Grateful Dead-inspired rock outfit delivered a two-set performance which included the debut covers of The Kinks‘ “Waterloo Sunset” and Joe Walsh‘s “Rocky Mountain Way”, in addition to some notable bust-outs.

The first set opened with “Black-Throated Wind”, which featured a jam very reminiscent of another popular Dead tune in “Jack Straw”, followed by their first cover of Chuck Berry‘s “The Festival” with pianist Marco Benevento on lead vocals since January 2017. The set continued with “Ruben & Cerise” and “St. Stephen” before transitioning into an incomplete instrumental cover debut of Joe Walsh well-known rock anthem “Rocky Mountain Way”. The music transitioned back to “St. Stephen” before the band grooved right into “Dancing In The Streets” and then “Mississippi Half-step Uptown Toodeloo” to send the show into set break.

The band returned to the stage to open the second set with another bust-out, this time being that of their first performance of “Alabama Getaway” in 146 shows (1/2/2016). The music continued right into “Shakedown Street” with mid-song teases of “King Solomon’s Marbles” throughout the jam. The second set kept rocking with “I Need A Miracle” and “Cassidy” before the band took the energy up another notch with the classic combination of “China Cat Sunflower” into “I Know You Rider”, with the latter segueing right into the set-closing performance of “Not Fade Away”.

The band returned to the stage to deliver their debut cover of The Kinks’ “Waterloo Sunset” featuring drummer Joe Russo on lead vocals. The show came to an end with a fitting rendition of “One More Saturday Night”.
