John Mayer popped in to his friend Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper‘s New Year’s Eve special with a few furry friends and good news about the future of Dead & Company.

Mayer called in to the late-night broadcast from Tokyo, where he was enjoying a midday visit to one of the city’s cat bars. “This is a place where you can come, enjoy a drink or two, and talk to cats,” the Dead & Company guitarist explained to his stunned interviewers, surrounded by felines. “It’s a cat bar. I don’t know how much more clear I can be about the objective of this place.”

The hosts giggled as Mayer hand fed some of the cats while the conversation continued on to topics including his new SiriusXM channel and his thoughts on the upcoming year. Asked whether there were any plans for Dead & Company to perform in 2024, Mayer replied, “Well, I’m not at liberty to say just yet, but have hope is what I’ll say. Just like you should for all things in 2024.”
