John Mayer has a busy 2016 ahead. The guitarist promised more Dead & Company dates on New Year’s Eve, and so far the band has followed up with one headlining date at Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival. In addition to his newfound role in Grateful universe, Mayer broke the news that his beloved John Mayer Trio ensemble has reunited for their first-ever studio project, a follow-up to the 2005 live album Try!

Earlier today, Mayer shared the first taste of this new album, in the form of an Instagram post. Titled “Golden,” the new song has a funky groove. We can’t wait to hear more!

It’s also worth noting that Mayer’s caption uses the phrase “gone are the days of the dramatic unveiling,” very reminiscent of the lyrics to the Grateful Dead song “Brown Eyed Women,” which Mayer had been singing on tour with Dead & Co. The Grateful Dead must be rubbing off on Mayer!
