Contemporary jazz torch-bearer Kamasi Washington has released the music video for his third single, “Street Fighter Mas”. The track will appear on his upcoming double album, titled Heaven And Earth, slated for release on Friday, June 22nd. The album will mark Washington’s first release since his 2017 audiovisual concept EP Harmony of Difference and his first full-length effort since his sprawling 2015 effort, The Epic.

The “Street Fighter Mas” music video was inspired by the 1987 arcade game Street Fighter, and was written to be the game’s imagined theme song. “When I was young, I was obsessed with Street Fighter!” Kamasi wrote in a recent Twitter post. “I thought I would be a professional gamer, so I made a theme song. I still imagine it playing when I walk into a tournament, like I’m entering a boxing ring.”

In the new video, directed by AG Rojas and produced by Park Pictures, Kamasi Washington stars as the hero, living out the game-centric dream he had in mind when writing “Street Fighter Mas”. Watch the new music video below:

As previously reported, Washington is also collaborating with Herbie Hancock on the jazz great’s forthcoming record, produced by Terrace Martin, which will also feature appearances by Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Thundercat, and Common.

Tickets for Kamasi Washington’s upcoming fall tour are also now on sale.
