Karina Rykman and Marlo Shankweiler recently hit the Relix studio to perform an acoustic rendition of Christmas classic, “Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town”.

Rykman, best known for laying down the bass grooves with Marco Benevento, and Shaknweiler, the guitarist for Melt, donned acoustic instruments for this jazzy rendition of the Holiday season staple, written by Frederick Coots and Haven Gillespie way back in 1934. The duo joins a long list of musicians to cover the song including Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, The Jackson 5, Bruce Springsteen, and The Temptations.

Rykman handles the lead for most of the roughly 90-second rendition while Shankweiler keeps a steady rhythm. The two switch roles toward the end of the performance, allowing Marlo to show off some tasteful jazz chops of her own.

The musician will keep herself busy with Benevento and solo tour dates throughout winter 2020.

She will also make an appearance at Jam Cruise 18, joining the likes of NOLA music legend George Porter Jr., steel guitarist Roosevelt Collier, Ghost-Note drummer/co-bandleader Robert Sput Searight, and guitarist Joe Marcinek as a Jam Room host when the cruise sets sail in January.
