Khruangbin has released “So We Won’t Forget”, the latest single off the band’s forthcoming album, Mordechai, due out June 26th via Dead Oceans, in association with Night Time Stories.

“So We Won’t Forget” follows Khruangbin’s first Mordechai single, “Time (You and I)”. Much like the previous release and those to follow, it incorporates vocals—something not often heard in the band’s music up to this point. Though the shift to more vocal work marks a new beginning for the band, they stay true to their multi-genre roots. At its core, Donald “DJ” Johnson‘s drums and Laura Lee Ochoa‘s bass drive Khruangbin. Mark Speer‘s guitar provides sweeping melodies and soaring soundscapes. The added vocals don’t serve as a focal point, but rather add extra layers of texture to an already sonically pleasing group.

“So We Won’t Forget” plays on the idea of positive memories and preventing them from slipping away. The song’s lyrical harmonization highlights this theme exceptionally well. “Call me what you want/call me what you need/words don’t have to say/ keep it to myself,” the band’s honeyed voices urge in unison on the song’s refrain.

“Memory is a powerful thing,” said the band in a press release. “Now more than ever it’s important to tell the people you love that you love them, so that they don’t forget.”

Khruangbin – “So We Won’t Forget” – Lyrics

Ooooo
One to remember
Writing it down now
So we won’t forget

Ooooo
Never enough paper
Never enough letters
So we won’t forget

Call me what you want
Call me what you need
Words don’t have to say
Keep it to myself

Ooooo
Every minute
Every hour
So we won’t forget

You
Don’t have to be silent
Say to remind me
So we won’t forget

Call me what you want
Call me what you need
Words don’t have to say
Keep it to myself

Oooo
Say you remember
For I think I’ve lost it
