King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard completed a four-night run at The Caverns in Pelham, TN with two memorable shows on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, the Australian psych-rockers performed in drag as part of a Pride Night celebration, and on Sunday, they played a rare acoustic show at the Tennessee venue.

After using Thursday and Friday to debut two songs, “Supercell” and “Astroturf”, KGLW moved above ground from The Caverns’ subterranean stage to the venue’s outdoor amphitheater on Saturday and continued to roll out tracks from the band’s forthcoming, “heavy as f–k” album, PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation, with the live debut of “Witchcraft”.

The concert took place just hours after Tennessee’s recent controversial drag ban was declared unconstitutional by a federal judge, and King Gizzard dressed in drag for the duration of the performance, donning dresses, lingerie, leggings, tops, and sun hats in celebration of Pride Night.

“That f—ing bulls— bloody bill that they’re trying to pass in this state,” said guitarist Joey Walker, “we woke up today, fortuitously, to see that a federal judge, who Donald Trump actually put there, said that it’s a f—ing bulls— thing. So this ain’t no protest, baby, it’s a celebration! Express yourself!”

Sunday was also a special KGLW performance, as the band traded its distorted Flying V’s for a folkier, acoustic sound. It was not the first time the band played an acoustic show. A set from the band’s December 19th acoustic show at The Princess Theatre in Brisbane, Australia was released last year as Live in Brisbane ’21. The show did feature some acoustic debuts, though, including “Lonely Steel Sheet Flyer”, “Han-Tyumi the Confused Cyborg”, “Wah Wah”, and “Trapdoor”.
