King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard recently wrapped up a prolific and productive year with a performance at Rhythm and Alps Festival in Cardrona, New Zealand. The Australian psych-rockers delivered a 75-minute set on the third and final day of the festival, which fell on New Year’s Eve.

Settling in for the last performance of a year that saw the release of five albums and an extensive U.S. tour that included three long-awaited marathon shows at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, King Gizzard kicked off the New Year’s Eve set with two heavy hitters from the band’s 2019 thrash metal-inspired album Infest The Rats’ Nest, “Self-Immolate” and “Mars for the Rich”. Next came a pair of tunes from 2017’s Polygondwanaland, “Crumbling Castle” and “the Fourth Colour”.

Then, after a run through “Am I in Heaven?” that featured a “Head On/Pill” tease, the band turned to material from its 2022 albums, including “Gaia”, off Omnium Gatherum, which included a drum solo with the riff from Led Zeppelin‘s “Moby Dick” at the end, and “Iron Lung”, a catchy tune from Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava. Finally, the band concluded the set with “Boogieman Sam” and “Magma”, another tune from Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava.
