Kitchen Dwellers have announced that mandolinist Shawn Swain will return to the stage for the band’s upcoming shows in Montana after taking much of 2024 off to recover from a pulmonary embolism.

“Ladies & Gentlemen, we are thrilled to announce that our very own Shawn Swain will be rejoining the touring party, starting with our upcoming Montana run this month,” the galaxy grass quartet said in a note to fans. “After facing and overcoming various health challenges over the past year, Shawn has taken the necessary time to recover and is now feeling healthy and ready to return to the stage. Please join us for 4 NIGHTS in Montana as we celebrate music, resilience, and Shawn’s return to doing what he loves most.”

This good news comes after Kitchen Dwellers spent the past six months performing with Silas Herman (son of Leftover Salmon’s Vince Herman). After announcing Swain’s return, the band shared a heartfelt note thanking Herman for stepping up and helping out:

Silas Herman. There aren’t enough things to say about this man. He stepped up to fill a role and did it with so much energy, passion, and talent. He was our light during a very difficult year and he helped us continue as a band playing some of our biggest shows. We’re lucky to have shared the stage with such a great musician. Not only that, he is a beautiful human being inside and out. He dropped everything and joined this circus for the past six months and for that we are eternally grateful. Silas will always be in the KD family and we can’t wait to make music with him again in the future. He has a lot going on so keep your ears open and be on the lookout for his projects this spring and summer! Silas, we love you!

Kitchen Dwellers are set to play four shows in Montana—two nights at The ELM in Bozeman, where the group first formed at Montana State University, on January 16th and 17th, followed by two nights at The Wilma in Missoula on the 18th and 19th. The quartet also has a number of other 2025 tour dates on the books, including headlining shows, dates supporting Greensky Bluegrass, and festival appearances at WinterWonderGrass, Suwannee Spring Reunion, DelFest, Northlands, Mountain Jam, Grand Targhee Bluegrass Festival, and more.
