Last month, Lettuce returned to Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre to perform songs from their new studio album, Elevate, in addition to reprising their Jerry Garcia Band tribute alongside longtime JCB pianist Melvin Seals. It was during the funk outfit’s “Rage Rocks” event when they delivered a fantastic performance of “Trapezoid”, one of the new tunes from Elevate. The performance notably featured a surprise sit-in from members of The Skyline Drumline, a local rhythm group who are often seen performing at Denver Nuggets basketball games.

The performance of “Trapezoid” opened up the second half of the show that night, and the band seemed to be refueled with plenty of energy as they reemerged onto the Red Rocks stage to start their second set with the funky original. The Skyline Drumline made their initial appearance towards the beginning of the performance, only to head offstage a few moments later. More members of the drumming group returned to the stage as towards the latter half of the performance as the instrumental reached its climax. As if the melodies coming from the band isn’t enough to get viewers into a musical mindset, the video’s subtly-psychedelic editing of quick cutaways, smokey filters, and zoomed-in shots only adds to the already entertaining performance.
