British singer-songwriter and guitarist Lianne La Havas made big waves when she released her Grammy-nominated sophomore album in July 2015 with Blood. It’s taken nearly five years, but La Havas has finally released the first single from her forthcoming studio effort in a follow-up to Blood with a very smooth-sounding track entitled, “Bittersweet”.

Released on Tuesday, “Bittersweet” hears the 30-year-old guide listeners through a blissful experience with her trademark vocals leading the way. Lianne covers a lot of ground during the song’s 3:57 minute run time, as the majority of the song’s verse lines hear her sing in more of a relaxed state, but the music subtly builds to a chorus that requires a bit of intensity from her incredible voice. The track is minimalistic at its core, but still very much packs a punch of melodic enchantment that’s worth that last five years of waiting.

La Havas was on hand to perform at Brooklyn’s Afropunk Festival this past August. The singer currently has no tour dates scheduled for 2020 as of Tuesday, but with her first new album in five years due out sometime this year, fans should be on the lookout for a tour announcement in the coming months.
