This past October saw Lucinda Williams, Wilco, and Alejandro Escovedo inducted into the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame. On Saturday, PBS will air a special presentation of the seventh annual awards ceremony, featuring Margo Price sitting in with Lucinda Williams on “Changed The Locks”, video of which is available now.
Taken off her 1988 self-titled LP, “Changed The Locks” puts Williams’ songwriting grit on full display as a woman scorned. She and Price, who also dons a guitar, trade lines back and forth as Price walks the path forged by trailblazers like Williams. Price presented Williams with a bouquet of flowers prior to their performance.
The star-studded induction ceremony saw Jason Isbell induct Williams, noting “A lot of my songs wouldn’t exist if I hadn’t spent so much time trying to rip her off.” Isbell himself delivers a touching tribute with a cover of “I Envy The Wind” off 2002’s Essence. Williams then takes the stage for a pair of guest-assisted covers, including “Crescent City” with Rosanne Cash and “Changed The Locks” with Price.
Lucinda Williams suffered a stroke in 2020, yet continues to tour with a crop of 2022 dates beginning on January 14th in Iowa City, IA. Price is set to appear at Dead & Company‘s Playing In The Sand destination event in Riviera Maya, Mexico this weekend, where she will sit in with the post-Grateful Dead act in light of John Mayer‘s absence due to a positive COVID-19 test.
Watch Lucinda Williams and Margo Price perform “Changed The Locks” at the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame awards ceremony. Austin City Limits 7th Annual Hall of Fame Honors air Saturday at 9 p.m. ET on PBS. A special 90-minute episode streams online beginning Sunday at 10 a.m. ET.
