Magic Beans offered fans another preview of the band’s upcoming double LP, Slice of Life, with the new, bluegrass-tinged single, “Footprints In The Rain”. Slice of Life is out on April 30th.

The sprawling 8-minute track finds Magic Beans exploring new sonic territory with the implementation of a banjo and lap steel guitar, courtesy of Torrin Daniels (Kitchen Dwellers) and Steelin Hearts respectively. The traditional bluegrass stylings interact with the Beans’ core of drumming and keyboards to create an experiment in jamgrass. Meanwhile, guitarist Scott Hachey‘s lyrics display the wisdom gained from a decade spent together as a band, traversing the country on the live music circuit. All the while, rolling images of the Colorado countryside fly by as Magic Beans rollick through the mountain music-inspired track.

Coming after the previously-released single “Sweet Thang“, fans are given a clearer picture of Slice of Life ahead of its release next week. While “Sweet Thang” was more in line with the Beans’ traditional electro-disco funk stylings, “Footprints In The Rain” still shows that the band—known for its live experimentations—is also willing to edit its musical formula on a molecular level.
