McLovins are gearing up for a tour-closing, headlining show at Brooklyn’s Knitting Factory with Bronx psych-funk act The Lvnguage on Friday, November 24th. The band initially hit the scene back in 2008 with their viral cover of Phish‘s “You Enjoy Myself”, a rendition that was truly impressive considering that its members were between 14 and 16 years old at the time. Subsequently, McLovins quickly rose the ranks in the following years, earning fans with their solid performances highlighting their improvisational talents and eclectic musicality.
Since their breakout success in 2008, a lot has changed for the Hartford, Connecticut-based act. The group has graduated college—with its members already in their mid-20’s—and has forged ahead full throttle with the project. Now, McLovins have begun to focus on their songwriting craft more so than ever. As the band moves into the second decade of their career, they are diverging from their jam beginnings and moving toward a quintessential rock n’ roll vibe.
Tom Marshall Welcomes McLovin’s Jake Huffman On Latest Under The Skin
Over the years, McLovins have worked closely with Phish lyricist Tom Marshall, collaborating on the track “Cohesive”. The band has also previously teamed up with Sesame Street musical director and Hamilton soundtrack producer Bill Sherman for 2015’s self-titled album (aka The Red Album). With plenty of buzz surrounding their upcoming tour closer, McLovins released their latest single “Anxious”, a melodic groove with a driving beat accented by drummer Jake Huffman‘s ever-improving vocals. Coming out of the Boogie-Down Bronx, The Lvnguage is an indie-pop act with plenty of psychedelic grooves to grab the attention of even the most staunch of funk heads. With the release of their 2017 album, Movement, the quartet is quickly gaining a name for themselves in the New York music scene. Keep an ear out for The Lvnguage in the near future, as these guys undoubtedly have something special going on. Take a listen to the organ heavy journey that is “A Major Funk Odyssey” below:
