My Morning Jacket traveled down south to celebrate the release of the band’s new, self-titled album with a show at the Alabama Theatre in Birmingham on Friday.
Released last Friday, My Morning Jacket marked the group’s first collection of new studio material since 2016’s It Still Moves. Last year band released The Waterfall II, featuring tracks recorded during the sessions that birthed 2015’s The Waterfall.
Along with the new album, MMJ has embarked on its first headlining tour in five years. Coupled together, the new album and associated tour represent a rebirth for the Louisville, KY psych-rock band 23 years in the making. That renewal was on full display in Birmingham on Friday as the band paired beloved classics like “Touch Me I’m Going To Scream” parts one and two and “Dance Floors” with new material, including the live debut of My Morning Jacket‘s “Complex”.
To make sure no one felt left out, My Morning Jacket streamed the entire Alabama show for free. The band’s tour continues tonight, October 30th, with a headlining set at Suwannee Hulaween. For tickets and a full list of tour dates click here.
