Child drumming sensation Nandi Bushell vanquished yet another foe as she defeated Queen drummer Roger Taylor in a rhythm battle. In a video posted on Sunday, the 11-year-old YouTube star shared footage of a recent jam session with Taylor.
Bushell begins the video with a history of her Queen fandom, which goes back to when she was eight. The yet-unknown child prodigy auditioned for an advertisement where she played drums on a cover of “Bohemian Rhapsody”, thus propelling her into the catalog of the stadium rockers. She landed the part and recorded her tracks in the famous RAK Studios in London, the site of recordings from The Smiths, The Jam, Psychedelic Furs, and many more.
Fast forward just three short years, and Bushell was invited to play alongside the very man whose drums are heard on “Bohemian Rhapsody”. Ahead of the rhythmic duel, Taylor playfully asks Bushell, “Do you use a double pedal? I only have a single one, that’s not fair.” The two enter into a battle of sticks, touching on every racket-making component of their kits from the bass drum to floor toms to snares to cymbals. Ultimately, Taylor lays down his sticks in defeat, bellowing “I give up.” Nandi also included a brief snippet of the two jamming on the Queen chart-topper, “We Are The Champions”.
