Neal Francis continues to build excitement for his forthcoming album, In Plain Sight, with the release of a new live video for “Can’t Stop The Rain”. The throwback piano player’s sophomore album is due out on November 5th via ATO.
Released last month as the lead single for In Plain Sight, “Can’t Stop The Rain” is a powerful starting gun for the neo-soul musician’s follow-up to his 2019 debut, Changes. The new live video—recorded at Shirk Studios in Chicago—continues to build on the narrative of Francis’ ever-evolving artistic personality. Though the in-studio video doesn’t feature a live audience, Francis and his ensemble perform like they’re playing to a packed house, offering a snippet of the group’s high-intensity stage presence.

It’s a testament to Francis’ fortitude as a songwriter that a track like “Can’t Stop The Rain” came out as cathartically joyful as it did, given the events that created it. After returning from touring in 2019, Francis experienced a breakup and found himself living inside a church. The burgeoning musician turned that pain into the art found on In Plain Sight, and even confronted his pain head-on by recording most of the album inside that same church.
“I’m owning up to all my problems within my relationships and my sobriety,” Francis said in a statement. “So much of it is about coming to the understanding that I continue to suffer because of those problems. It’s about acknowledging that and putting it out in the open in order to mitigate the suffering and try to work on it, instead of trying to hide everything.”
