Before he passed away from a rare form of skin cancer earlier this month, Jimmy Buffett recorded one last album. Entitled Equal Strain On All Parts, the 14-song collection offers Parrotheads and the world a heartfelt parting document from the beloved singer-songwriter, entrepreneur, and Mayor of Margaritaville, and it features collaborations with some of Buffett’s most note-worthy friends, including Paul McCartney, Emmylou Harris, Lennie Gallant, Angelique Kidjo, and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
Due out November 3rd, Equal Strain On All Parts was recorded this year and co-produced by longtime Coral Reefers, Michael Utley and Mac McAnally.
Three songs from the forthcoming album are available now:
“Like My Dog” is an airy and lighthearted, steel drum-infused song contrasting the companionship of his loyal pack of dogs—Lola, Kingston, Pepper, Rosie, Ajax, and Kody—to a lover’s lackluster affection. Scotty Emerick played the song (co-written with Harley Allen) when he opened up for Buffett and he just couldn’t resist including it on the record, according to press materials.
“My Gummie Just Kicked In” is both humorous and hard-rocking, which makes sense because it’s based on a dinner party Buffett had with Paul McCartney and their wives. When McCartney’s wife Nancy stumbled into the room, Buffett asked if she was okay and she replied, “Oh, no—I’m fine. My gummie just kicked in!”
The Beatle himself can be heard playing bass on the track and seen in the behind-the-scenes studio footage featured in the music video.

“Bubbles Up” is a poignant and emotional reflection on finding your way through difficult times making use of a befitting scuba diving metaphor, where bubbles serve as the north star leading the way to the surface.
