Norah Jones has shared another wonderful-sounding single which is set to appear on the veteran singer-songwriter’s forthcoming studio effort, Pick Me Up Off the Floor, due out this summer on June 12th via Blue Note Records.
Entitled, “Were You Watching?” the calming new track follows the recently-shared “I’m Alive” and “How I Weep” as the album’s third single, and again hears Jones utilize her newly discovered passion for traditional poetry as inspiration for the song’s lyrics.
As Rolling Stone reports, “Were You Watching?” was co-penned by Jones and poet Emily Fiskio, and features performances from Christopher Thomas (bass), Brian Blade (drums), and Mazz Swift (violin) along with backing vocalists Ruby Amanfu and Sam Ashworth. Fiskio and Jones have collaborated together in the past, as the two co-wrote the song “Begin Again” which appeared on Jones’ 2019 album by the same name.

Jones mentioned of her forthcoming album to go with the single’s premiere this week, “Some of the songs that are personal also apply to the larger issues we’re all facing. And some of the songs that are about very specific larger things also feel quite personal.”

Jones was scheduled to embark on a co-headlining run of performances this spring alongside past collaborator Mavis Staples beginning with a show on May 12th in Albuquerque, NM. That tour will no longer take place as scheduled for obvious reasons surrounding COVID-19, but fans should check back to Jones’ website on occasion for updates to her 2020 tour schedule and ticket info. Fans can also watch Jones’ weekly webcasts which see and hear her perform songs on the piano (originals and requests!) from her home.
