Pearl Jam and Apple TV have announced the “Global Gigaton Listening Experience in Dolby Atmos”, a special audio-visual event available for free to all Apple TV users for one week starting Friday, April 24th.

While Pearl Jam was forced to postpone their tour in support of their latest album, Gigaton, due to the ongoing global health crisis, the band has found various creative ways to stoke fan excitement for the new project from home. Prior to the release of Gigaton, Pearl Jam set up a special hotline that allowed fans to call in and hear the new LP ahead of its official release.

Now, the Gigaton Visual Experience will bring a “theater experience” to fans right in their homes. According to a press release, the “Global Gigaton Listening Experience” will “bring the album alive through immersive audio and ultra-vivid picture quality.”

As Gigaton producer Josh Evans notes, “I’m excited for fans to be able to immerse themselves in the sound and to hear the depth and layers of these songs and performances. It’s a truly unique way to experience this album.”

The press release goes on to note that Pearl Jam had initially planned on releasing the Gigaton Visual Experience—essentially an album-length music video with 4K image quality—in movie theaters along with the album’s release.
