Pearl Jam announced on Monday that they will be releasing a new album, Gigaton, March 27th and touring North America in support of it.
After a cryptic social media post last week featuring an interactive map and augmented reality, the band confirmed suspicions that they will be releasing new music and taking it on the road. This will mark the grunge mainstay’s first studio effort since 2013’s Lightning Bolt, which will end their longest gap between albums in a 30-year career. The first single, “Dance of the Clairvoyants” will be released in the coming weeks.
“Making this record was a long journey,” guitarist Mike McCready said in a statement. “It was emotionally dark and confusing at times, but also an exciting and experimental road map to musical redemption. Collaborating with my bandmates on Gigaton ultimately gave me greater love, awareness, and knowledge of the need for human connection in these times.”
The album was produced by Josh Evans alongside the band. While this was Evans’ first time working with Pearl Jam, he boasted an impressive resume before becoming part of the Gigaton production team. He had previously worked with Soundgarden, Chris Cornell, Mad Season, and Pearl Jam’s own Mike McCready.
Pearl Jam also announced a 16-date North American tour in support of their new album, which will see the band play across the United States and Canada in March and April. Tickets are available on the band’s website. See a full list of North American dates below.
