Jane’s Addiction singer and global festival producer Perry Farrell has shared graphic details surrounding a recent (and pretty intense) spinal surgery which involved the removal of his entire voice box.

An interview with the famous rock singer with Classic Rock Magazine hears Farrell discuss the procedure that was meant to fix crushed discs in his neck as a result of years of hard living as a professional entertainer.

“They had to remove my voice box and put it on a table. That was daunting,” he told the publication. “They literally exposed my skeleton, took the discs out and put in artificial discs. So now I am a quarter inch taller and twice as attractive to my wife.”

Farrell continued, “It was successful. I have crushed discs in my neck, mostly from partying and leaning back my head to rip out notes and surfing and dancing around… There’s a long list.”

Earlier this year Farrell and his founding partners at Lollapalooza were forced to pivot and restructure the 2020 edition of the end-of-summer event to that of a virtual festival comprised of archive performances and remote appearances from Paul McCartney, Chance The Rapper, OutKast, Arcade Fire, Michelle ObamaLL COOL J, and many more.
