The 2022–2023 celebration will mark the culmination of Phish’s 40th year as a band. Last year’s time machine gag offered fans a retrospective of the jam giants’ singular career, with references and call-backs to past New Year’s gags and other memorable milestones. It also marked Phish’s first proper New Year’s Eve run at Madison Square Garden since 2019, when the band sent in the clones and Trey Anastasio christened the Rescue Squad.

After plans for a 2020 run were thwarted by COVID, Phish was all set to close 2021 with its return to the World’s Most Famous Arena. While a winter surge in COVID cases due to the Omicron variant prompted the postponement of the 2021 New Year’s run, the band did ring in 2022 with a fan-less livestream show from “The Ninth Cube.” Phish ultimately made its triumphant return to the Garden for a four-night run, staging an aquarium-themed three-set make-up show in April before embarking on a lengthy spring/summer tour.

Forty years in, Phish continues to look forward, with the band’s highly anticipated debut at The Sphere set for April and its first festival since 2015’s Magnaball in August. For more information on upcoming events and ticketing details, visit the band’s website.
