The long-running Jazz Fest tradition Worship My Organ returned on Tuesday for a late-night performance at the new One Eyed Jacks. The show featuring John Medeski, Robert Walter, Adam Deitch, and Skerik comes amidst the return of the long-running tradition that is Jazz Fest itself.
Tuesday’s performance at the new One Eyed Jacks on Decatur Street, not to be confused with the old One Eyed Jacks on Toulouse Street that is now the Toulouse Theatre, began with a set from Adam Deitch & Friends. The Lettuce drummer pulled double duty as he opened the show with an array of friends including his Lettuce bandmate Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff as well as Shaun Martin, Maurice “Mobetta” Brown, and Nick Daniels, in addition to a pop-in from vocalist Lyle Divinsky.
The main event then arrived with Worship My Organ, as Medeski and Walter duked it out from dueling keyboards across the stage. As if there wasn’t enough piano wizardry at One Eyed Jacks, the evening also saw a surprise appearance from breakout R&B bandleader Neal Francis.
