On Friday, Pink Talking Fish performed at the Jericho Drive-In in Glenmont, NY before a socially distant crowd. The concert by the Pink Floyd/Talking Heads/Phish tribute act was immediately followed by a screening of Dazed and Confused, prompting the band to add some Led Zeppelin to its repertoire.
The drive-in concert comes as the latest socially distanced event for PTF, who also played the At The Drive-In series at the Cheshire Fairgrounds in Swanzey, NH on July 31st as well as a Labor Day concert at the Yarmouth Drive-In. Next, the group is off to the Phish mecca Nectar’s in Burlington, VT for a limited capacity rooftop concert on October 16th.
Pink Talking Fish’s concert got off to an immediate roar with an opening 20-minute “Simple”, which kicked off the marathon one-set show in earnest. This segued into a pair of Pink Floyd offerings with “Happiest Days Of Our Lives” and “Another Brick In The Wall (Part Two)”. The fan-favorite hits kept coming with a smooth transition into “This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)” by Talking Heads, after which came the first pause of the evening before PTF loaded up “Rift” for a standard run-through, followed by “Have A Cigar”.
The Wish You Were Here track flowed into the lesser-known Talking Heads tune “And She Was”, before ultimately giving way to “Reba” which enjoyed some improvisational treatment and marked a mid-concert peak. After the roaring jam, things slowed down a bit with “Wish You Were Here” and “Moon Rocks”, which then kicked off a classic PTF pairing with “Theme From The Bottom” segueing into “Us and Them”, into “Any Colour You Like”, and ultimately back into “Theme From The Bottom”. “Crosseyed and Painless” served up a late-show surge of energy, before Pink Talking Fish delivered one last highlight for the evening by sandwiching Led Zeppelin’s “Dazed and Confused” in the middle of a mighty “David Bowie” to close out the show.
