Back in November of 2019, following an electric Sunday night show at the Colectivo Backroom in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Marco Benevento and his band found themselves snowed in and unable to make their show in Davenport the following evening. Stuck in the Cream City with an unplanned off day, the band stopped by Hear Here Presents’ vintage-psychedelic studio to record a live, in-studio session.
Hear Here Presents is a Milwaukee-based live music video series, creative collective and recording studio located in a historic warehouse just minutes away from the venue. Hear Here producers reached out to Marco after recording a session with the Mattson 2 a few months earlier, who were currently on tour with Benevento and company.
Adorned in snowy white linen from head-to-toe, Marco Benevento and his bandmates, bassist Karina Rykman and drummer Dave Butler, braved the blizzard to play an intimate set for a handful of lucky listeners. What followed was pure, improvised magic. Marco and his band rolled through three soul-riding songs from their latest album, Let It Slide, ‘ in a psychedelic flourish that seemed to unravel out of thin air. With Marco’s stream of consciousness spontaneity and the rhythm sections’ unbreakable bond, the warm glow of the music turned a night off into a snow day celebration.
“I had no idea how cool Milwaukee was until we met all the folks at Hear Here,” Marco explains. “Seriously, those guys have such a unique thing going on. I already can’t wait to go back! They hosted such a cool party in an amazing space and made all of us feel at home.”
Adds Rykman, “Hear Here is a Midwestern gem! They know how to party there for sure. Milwaukee came in so hot – love the vibe, love the people. They showed us a most excellent time – we didn’t want to leave after the session ended!
Today, Live For Live Music is excited to debut the video of the Marco Benevento Hear Here session in all its glory. Check it out below:
