The long-awaited Prince memoir about the late guitarist and singer which was originally announced back in spring 2016 has finally been given a release date. The 288-page book will be titled The Beautiful Ones and is scheduled to arrive on October 29th via Random House. Fans will be quick to point out the book’s title in relation to the Prince song by the same name which appeared on his groundbreaking 1984 LP, Purple Rain.
According to the announcement, The Beautiful Ones will include material pulled from the 50 handwritten pages penned by Prince himself prior to his death in April 2016. The book will also include original scrapbooks, never-before-seen photographs, and original handwritten lyric sheets from throughout the guitarist’s career. New Yorker writer Dan Piepenbring was hand-picked to write the book’s introduction.
The four-part book will begin with the Prince-penned pages, which discuss his childhood. The memoir will move on to his early years as a musician in the second section, his evolution through candid images in the third section, and the final stage in Prince’s self-creation with his original handwritten treatment for Purple Rain in the fourth.
A statement shared by Random House to go with Monday’s announcement also states, “‘The Beautiful Ones’ is the story of how Prince became Prince—a first-person account of a kid absorbing the world around him and then creating a persona, an artistic vision, and a life, before the hits and fame that would come to define him.”
