On Friday night, Mexican classical guitar fusion duo Rodrigo y Gabriela made their way to Missoula, MT’s The Wilma as part of their ongoing summer tour in support of their 2019 release, Mettavolution.
Of particular note at this performance, Rodrigo went into detail about how their last trip to Missoula helped inspire the album art for Mettavolution, which prominently features an image of a mountain and its natural surroundings. As Rodrigo explained, the last time the duo performed in Missoula back in September of 2018, they were still working on the album and had not yet come to a decision regarding its cover art. While in Missoula, they hiked Mount Sentinel, which sits on the edge of the city and is branded with the letter “M.” This experience in the shadow of Mount Sentinel eventually wound up serving as the inspiration for the album artwork.
