Run The Jewels have released a new single from their upcoming Run The Jewels 4 album, entitled “Ooh LA LA”, which sees the hip-hop duo team up with Greg Nice and DJ Premier.
The song marks the second single released from RTJ4, as well as the second release this week. In the song, Killer Mike and El-P take a much more relaxed approach to lyrical delivery than Monday’s “Yankee And The Brave“, which featured rapid-fire rhymes that were finished in under 2-and-a-half minutes. “Ooh LA LA” starts with a rubber band snap-back of an intro from El of “Ooh La La, oui oui” that sounds a lot catchier than it reads. After El-P’s fairly civilian verse where he invokes choreographer Mikhail Baryshnikov in a rare crossover of hip-hop and ballet, Killer Mike comes in with a more familiar allusion to Wu Tang Clan‘s Ol’ Dirty Bastard and his hit track “Shimmy Shimmy Ya”. The two rappers then get out of the way to let DJ Premier do his thing with some well-placed scratching.

A release date for RTJ4 has not yet been confirmed, but Killer Mike has stated that the album would be out in time for the group’s scheduled performances at Coachella. This statement, however, was made before the festival was postponed to October, and since then there has been no official word from the group as to whether or not that would affect RTJ4‘s release date.
As of this moment, Run The Jewels’ shows opening for Rage Against The Machine‘s long-awaited reunion tour are still on. This could change, however, as the country’s response to the spread of the novel coronavirus pushes concert cancellations back every day. Head to RTJ’s website for tickets and up-to-date information.
