Sean Ono Lennon appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday to perform a rendition of his father’s song “Isolation”. Friday, October 9th marked what would have been John Lennon‘s 80th birthday, and has been met with a worldwide celebration of The Beatles founder, dubbed LENNON80.

The son of Lennon and his second wife Yoko Ono said of the celebration in the video’s description,

Hey guys, here’s my version of ‘ISOLATION’, with me on drums and my nephew Jack on bass. Crazy how much the lyrics fit our current year. Please upload a cover of your favorite John Lennon song, put #GIMMESOMETRUTH and #LENNON80 and tag my dad @johnlennon (on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok) to help celebrate his 80th birthday. We need his music and his message now more than ever!

The in-studio performance features a solo Lennon performing a sparse rendition of the song found on John’s debut solo release, 1970’s John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band. The one-half of The Claypool Lennon Delirium takes on an overdrive-drenched approach that, in the absence of any other instrumentation besides an unseen drum kit and minimalistic bass, helps to fill the void in this solo performance. It’s impossible to think that Sean could be the child of any other couple, with his mother’s face and his father’s signature voice.
