The Disco Biscuits keyboardist Aron Magner will bring his new jazz side project, SPAGA, to Chicago’s City Winery for an afternoon performance on Saturday, January 4th. City Winery’s doors will open at 1 p.m. ahead of a 2 p.m. start time.
The show aligns with the Disco Biscuits’ performances at Chicago’s Riviera Theatre on January 2nd – 4th, and will mark SPAGA’s first performance of the new year following their year-ending afternoon performance at New York City’s DROM on December 29th during the day off between the second and third nights of the Disco Biscuits’ four-night NYE run at PlayStation Theater.
The “mostly acoustic” group—comprised of Magner, string bassist Jason Fraticelli, and drummer Matt Scarano—centers around Magner’s classic jazz background, creating a new musical experience for fans of the keyboardist.
Over the summer, the trio released their self-titled debut album featuring five original tracks and a reimagined jazz rendition of the Disco Biscuits’ “Resurrection”. The group made their NYC debut back in September at Le Poisson Rouge, and spent this past summer on the festival circuit, performing at Electric Forest, Telluride Jazz Fest, and Resonance Music & Arts Festival.
A fan ticket pre-sale period for the SPAGA Chicago show will begin on Wednesday, October 23rd at 12 p.m. CT (using the code “L4LM”) and continue through the general on-sale on Friday, October 25th at 12 p.m. CT. For ticketing details, head here.
