It’s that time of year again when the leaves fall from the trees, families gather together for the holidays, and social media is flooded with Spotify “Wrapped” statistics. The year-end round-up of users’ listening habits is a great way to either gain some credibility or lose it, possibly exposing that guilty pleasure pop song or showing off how deep of a dive you spent in an obscure subgenre.
Well, there’s no hiding your habits from Spotify, with the streaming giant also releasing the stats for the entire globe. Unsurprisingly, pop musicians took home top spots for the most streamed artists globally, with Bad Bunny taking home #1 for the third year in a row. The Puerto Rican pop sensation is proceeded on the global chart by Taylor Swift, the only woman among the top global artists, followed by Drake, The Weeknd, and BTS.
Over on the most streamed songs globally, Harry Styles took home the top spot with “As It Was”, which headed the Billboard 100 for 15 straight weeks in a new record for a British Act. Indie rockers Glass Animals brought the #2 spot back to England as well with “Heat Waves”. Following The Kid LAROI‘s Justin Bieber-assisted “STAY”, Bad Bunny took home the final positions.
Looking domestically, the top U.S. artists aligned with the global trends, albeit in a different order and with Kanye West capturing #4 in spite of his tumultuous 2022. In that same vein, embattled country singer-songwriter Morgan Wallen placed #3 among the top streamed U.S. albums with Dangerous: The Double Album. There was still no topping Harry Styles’ “As It Was” in the U.S., though up-and-coming solo artists Steve Lacy and Jack Harlow each managed to grab seats at #3 and #5 respectively.
