Bruce Springsteen has shared a new live recording of “The Promised Land”, which originally appeared on his 1978 Darkness on the Edge of Town LP. The new cut of the fan-favorite will appear on his forthcoming soundtrack to his Tony Award-winning theatrical production of “Springsteen On Broadway”, which is scheduled to arrive next Friday, December 14th. The live recording of his 1978 ballad was played during one of Springsteen’s 236 performances at New York City’s Walter Kerr Theatre, where his one-man show mixing both songs and spoken word has taken run October 2017.

Like many of the song performed throughout his Broadway run, this new live version sounds incredible. Even at the respectable age of 69, Springsteen still successfully channels his younger self and inspires the listener in the process with the lyrics, “Working all day in my dad’s garage/driving all night, chasing some mirage.” Bruce utilizes both his harmonica and acoustic guitar for the solo performance, using those perfectly aged vocal cords of his to inspire his intimate audience. The recording sets the bar for what fans can expect to hear when the soundtrack arrives later next week. Bruce’s performance of “Promised Land” would typically take place six songs into the show each night, finding a home in between “Thunder Road” and “Born in the U.S.A.”.

The final performance of Springsteen On Broadway is scheduled for next Saturday, December 15th. The recently announced concert film chronicling one of the shows from Springsteen’s Broadway run will also arrive on Netflix the following day, making for one heck of a weekend for fans of The Boss.

It was also recently rumored that Springsteen might be heading back out on tour with the E Street Band in 2019, but sadly that won’t be the case. Springsteen took to Twitter on Tuesday to let fans know he’ll be taking a well-deserved break in the coming year after his long Broadway residency and time spent working on other projects. Fans can be cautiously optimistic that he and his band will be back out on the road in 2020. Until then, fans can click here to pre-order Springsteen On Broadway.
