Today, the String Cheese Incident has shared an old-school video from the vault, a 16-minute “Black and White” from Mt. Shasta Ski Park on July 29th, 2000. The jam-grass veterans started off with some theatrics, as drummer Michael Travis parasailed in from a nearby mountain, running as fast as he could to the stage. SCI appropriately opened the show with a “Waiting for Travis Jam”, with bassist Keith Moseley took the reigns on behind the kit. The band then dove head first into a monster sequence of “Miss Brown’s Teahouse”> “Dudley’s Kitchen”> “100 Year Flood”, before closing the set with another extended jam segment of “Bigger Isn’t Better”> “Flashlight”> “Bigger Isn’t Better”> “Mouna Bowa”.

However, perhaps the highlight of the night was a deep 16-minute multi-faceted “Black and White” jam. String Cheese Incident opened the set with the Michael Kang led tune, as the mandolin extraordinaire worked through an impressive scatting section, before an extended silent-pause, which gave way to a massive peaking jam, as keyboardist Kyle Hollingsworth exchanged fierce solos with Kang and guitarist Bill Nershi.

The remainder of the set was highlighted by another extended segue of “Don’t Say”> “Jam”> “Climb, Jam”> “Johnny Cash”> “Hoseguy Jam”> “Johnny Cash”, as Nershi invited a random Mt. Shasta, CA resident he had met earlier in the day up onstage, playing a garden house fitted with a mouthpiece from a trumpet, while the band vamped around him. “Outside and Inside” served as the encore for the exploratory SCI show. Today the String Cheese Incident has released video of their jammed-out “Black and White” from Mt. Shasta Ski Park on July 19th, 2000. Check it out below:
