On Wednesday night, The String Cheese Incident returned to Dillon, CO’s Dillon Amphitheater for the second show of their two-night run.
The String Cheese Incident opened up their first set with ” On the Road”, giving Bill Nershi a chance to flex his chops on the acoustic guitar out of the gates. The band moved forward with “These Waves”, which smoothly segued into “Djibouti Bump”, backed by an infectious rhythmic groove from Keith Moseley, Michael Travis, and Jason Hann.
SCI kept things rolling with the Kyle Hollingsworth-led “Boo Boo’s Pik-A-Nik”, which the band left open-ended and returned to towards the end of the set. Moving out of “Boo Boo’s”, the band jumped in and out of a cover of Steve Miller Band‘s “Take The Money And Run”, with “Salt Creek” and “Big Mon” sprinkled in between before finally crashing back into “Boo Boo’s Pik-A-Nik”.
The crowd erupted with applause as the sextet took a brief moment to catch their breaths. Following “Seventh Step”, the band hopped into “Dirk” to the crowd’s delight, which featured some exploratory interplay between Nershi, Michael Kang, and Kyle Hollingsworth. “Dirk” segued into “Believe” before the band brought their explosive first set to a close with “Smile”.
Following a brief set break, Cheese returned to open their second set with “It Is What It Is” before coasting into a cover of the Allman Brothers Band‘s “Hot ‘Lanta”. Kang let it rip as he fired off a series of red-hot licks, backed by Hollingsworth doing his best Gregg Allman on the keys. “Hot ‘Lanta” made way for “Shantytown” as the sun set behind Summit County’s beautiful mountains. The band continued on with “Sweet Spot” and “Bhangra Saanj” before unleashing a cover of Talking Heads‘ “Nothing But Flowers”. SCI closed out their second set with a pairing of “Pack It Up” into “Let’s Go Outside”. The band opened up their encore with a reprise of “It Is What It Is” before closing out the night with a cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Boogie On Reggae Woman”.
Next up for The String Cheese Incident is a three-night run at Morrison, CO’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre, set for this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, July 19th-21st.
