Tedeschi Trucks Band played Asheville on Wednesday, and even after the 16-song show, Susan Tedeschi still wanted to keep singing. Luckily for her, just a couple blocks from the ExploreAsheville.com Arena downtown, The One Stop at Asheville Music Hall was still going strong late into the night with The Shady Recruits who invited Tedeschi up for a sit-in.

The Shady Recruits had already played for nearly two hours by the time Tedeschi strolled through the bar and onto the intimate stage. Beyond being her own after-party band, Tedeschi’s connection to The Shady Recruits runs through trumpeter Justin Johnson, who previously toured with Tedeschi Trucks Band. With Asheville staple Marcus White doing his best Billy Preston on keys, Tedeschi led the band through a soulful rendition of “Nothing From Nothing”. The casual drop-in at the local hot spot bred a loose, jammy environment, with Tedeschi graciously sharing the spotlight with her fellow performers before she finally called it a night.

The One Stop has long been a beacon for Asheville music fanatics and musicians alike, offering free live music (with a suggested donation) six nights a week. In the sleepy Southern mountain town, most bars, breweries, and businesses are closed by 10 p.m., just when the band usually takes the stage for its first set at The One Stop. The downtown hub has been known to draw surprise appearances from visiting musicians, with Billy Strings joining Jon Stickley Trio at the upstairs Asheville Music Hall at a pre-party for his 2024 arena run, and members of Spafford stopping by The One Stop to jam with the local Phish cover band a couple years ago.

Watch Susan Tedeschi join The Shady Recruits at the Tedeschi Trucks Band after-party at The One Stop in Asheville. The sit-in begins at 2:21:23. Tedeschi Trucks Band will continue its Live in 25 tour on Friday in Virginia Beach before heading to New York for six nights at the Beacon Theatre. Find tickets and a full list of tour dates here.
