After forgoing the Beacon Theatre in 2023 in favor of Madison Square Garden, then splitting up five shows between winter and fall of 2024, Tedeschi Trucks Band returned to the Beacon over the weekend to kick off a traditional six-night residency. With two down and four to go on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, here are some highlights from the first couple Tedeschi Trucks Band shows at the Beacon.

Despite being on the road for less than three weeks this year, Tedeschi Trucks Band has already debuted a string of new songs. Some of these made their Beacon debuts between Saturday and Monday, starting with the “Future Soul” that opened the residency. The rocking, bluesy stomper debuted on May 14th in Asheville, NC and has already been played three times, just like “Who Am I” which also made an appearance on Saturday.

With plenty of setlist space to fill, Tedeschi Trucks Band also gave some other live regulars their 2025 debuts. Saturday’s show saw the first “I Can’t Make You Love Me” and “Show Me” of the year, as well as “Joyful Noise” which last appeared on September 27th in Brooklyn as part of TTB’s unorthodox New York City multi-venue run. The track from the Derek Trucks Band was last seen outside NYC on August 28th, 2024 in Philadelphia, per Setlist.fm.

On the covers front, Tedeschi Trucks Band threw in tributes to Prince (“1999”), Bob Dylan (“Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright”), Ben E. King (“It Ain’t Fair”), Mike Reid (“I Can’t Make You Love Me”), and Joe Tex (“Show Me”). Louis Jordan and His Tympany Five‘s “Let the Good Times Roll” also made its fourth appearance of the year, after skipping all of 2024 following its debut on June 27th, 2023 in Virginia.

After taking Sunday off, Tedeschi Trucks Band returned reinvigorated to continue the residency on Monday. TTB started off the show with another recent original, “Crazy Cryin'”, which debuted at the band’s year-opening curated Sun, Sand and Soul festival on May 1st. The band also played its second-ever “Moon” and “I Wish I Knew (How It Would Feel To Be Free)” by Billy Taylor, both introduced at the band’s Austin run earlier this month.

Between those recent additions, Tedeschi Trucks Band filled its Monday setlist with staples “Do I Look Worried”, “Hear My Dear”, “Fall In”, and “Part of Me”, plus the pairing of John Prine‘s “Angel From Montgomery” with Jerry Garcia‘s “Sugaree”. TTB also nodded to neighboring New Jersey export Bruce Springsteen with a cover of “State Trooper” off The Boss’ 1982 folk record, Nebraska. The band finished its second of six nights at the Beacon with its always-stirring call to action, “Let’s Go Get Stoned”.
