“A wise man once said the road goes on forever…” wrote Tedeschi Trucks Band on their Facebook page ahead of their show at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in Orlando on Sunday night. Following their emotional concert on Saturday, just hours after the world heard the news that Gregg Allman, the iconic founder of the Allman Brothers Band, had passed away at the age of 69, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi played on.
The Florida heat brought the rock and blues ensemble out for a scorching show, featuring a pleasant mix of covers and originals. The set opened with Let Me Get By‘s “Laugh About It,” Made Up My Mind‘s “Do I Look Worried,” and their traditional cover of “Anyday” by Derek and the Dominos. After another 2016 favorite “Right On Time,” the 12-piece debuted a new cover of “Chevrolet,” which appears on the Derek Trucks Band‘s 2005 Songlines.
Tedeschi Trucks Band played through “Color of the Blues” by George Jones, before performing “On My Way To Heaven” by The Staple Singers, which they’ve only played twice before. The band continued with two more covers, “How Blue Can You Get” by B.B. King and “I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free” by Billy Taylor, before returning to their “The Storm.” The show closed with an emotionally-charged, fiercely-driven debut cover of “Whipping Post” by the Allman Brothers Band, with Susan Tedeschi on vocals.
Tedeschi Trucks Band encored with “Isn’t It A Pity” by George Harrison and their original “Bound For Glory.”
